We fly from London Heathrow usually with Malaysia Airlines.
You can either join the group at Heathrow, Kuala
Lumpur(KL) or Kota Kinabalu, Sabah(KK)
The flights are best booked by the individual as
there are so many offers on the internet these days, a bargain is always
possible.
Last year the average return flight cost was about £570.
Looking on the Internet recently the flights are about £560 at
the moment.
Earlier this year we flew out with Singapore
airlines and returned with Royal Brunei.
Singapore
was by far the most comfortable, but Brunei
was much cheaper.
In 2006 we flew with Malaysian Air, again excellent service.
Always make sure your holiday insurance covers cancellation of flights and your
holiday.
Kota Kinabalu:
KK is a modern
state capital with little that can be dated back little more than 50 years.
The city is strung out along the coast, with jungle-clad
hills as a backdrop.
The airport is about 5km out of town, we will be met at the
airport and transferred to the city centre and the City Park Lodge after
arrival.
There are many things to do in KK whilst we are there.
These include great markets, a beach, snorkelling, fishing trips, scuba diving,
good shops and a few bars and restaurants.

Southern Kota Kinabalu
Hotel:
We will be using the City Park
Lodge again this year.
This is situated in the centre of Kota Kinabalu with plenty
of shops and restaurants close by,
If you wish to travel further outside the town a taxi rank
is outside the front door.
The hotel is basic but clean.
All rooms are twin rooms and have air conditioning, shower
and toilet. Single rooms are available on request (extra charge).
Clean towels are provided throughout our stay.
Equipment you do not take on your expeditions can usually
be stored in the hotel if it is not exceptionally busy. It may be worth bringing
a spare stuff sack or bin liner for this. The hotel and Abbot Outdoors will not
be responsible for it though.
You will only be booked to stay in the hotel as per the
itinerary; if you do not go on an expedition for any reason you must pay for the
extra time spent in the hotel yourself.
The hotel has no eating facilities; however, the Hunters
bar about 100m away does a great breakfast for about £1.20.
On the expeditions into the
jungle and mountain areas we recommend you using hammocks (you must bring your
own, we do not supply them on the trip), but tents can be provided if required.
